Covington, County seat in Georgia, United States.
Covington is the seat of Newton County in Georgia, sitting at roughly 226 meters elevation. The streets wind through neighborhoods where homes show Renaissance Revival design, and several parks are scattered throughout the city limits.
The town formed in the early 19th century as the administrative center for Newton County. During the Civil War, General Sherman's forces moved through in 1864, leaving a handful of pre-war structures intact.
Multiple television productions and films selected Covington as their filming location, including The Vampire Diaries and In the Heat of the Night.
Interstate 20 connects this place directly to Atlanta to the west and Augusta to the east. The local school system operates facilities for all ages from kindergarten through high school.
Several television productions used this place as a filming location, including the series The Vampire Diaries. In December, historic homes open for tours organized by a local garden club.
