Conyers Residential Historic District, Historic residential district in Conyers, United States.
Conyers Residential Historic District is a residential area spanning about 85 acres with buildings of different architectural styles. Structures along Main Street and Railroad Street show Mid 19th Century Revival, Late Victorian, and Classical Revival designs.
The district began as a railroad town in the 1840s and grew outward in a radiating pattern from its central business area. This layout differed from the typical grid structure of other towns that developed during the same period.
Three important churches stand in the district, built between 1902 and 1938, with one Methodist church displaying red brick Gothic Revival design created by Atlanta architect Willis Denny.
The Welcome Center at 901 Railroad Street offers information and assistance for visitors exploring the district. Staff can guide you toward points of interest and help plan walking tours through the area.
The Langford House, constructed in 1913, blends Classical Revival and Italian Renaissance styles with matching side porches and a columned entrance. Architect Neel Reid designed this home as an interesting combination of two distinct design approaches.
