Panola Mountain is a nature park near Atlanta featuring a roughly 100-acre granite outcrop spreading across 1,635 acres in total. The area contains two lakes, extensive forests, and streams that flow through surrounding natural meadows.

The state of Georgia acquired the land in 1974, and it includes Vaughters' Barn, a structure documenting the agricultural past of DeKalb County. The region was once a major center for dairy farming and cattle raising.

The name Panola probably comes from the Cherokee word for cotton, linked to the cotton grown here. Arabia Mountain and Panola Mountain share the same granite outcrop, and the two are managed together as a heritage area. Visitors can see the old Vaughters' farm buildings, which show the area's farming past.

Visitors need to book in advance for ranger-led hikes in order to properly explore the mountain and its trails. The Nature Center provides information and equipment rentals to support your outdoor activities.

The granite outcrop hosts specialized plant species that have adapted to survival on bare rock surfaces and exist only in this Georgia Piedmont Region. These rare plants shape the mountain's ecological character and make it botanically significant.
