Summit Skyride, Aerial tramway at Stone Mountain, Georgia, US
The Summit Skyride is an aerial tramway on Stone Mountain that carries visitors to the summit without walking. The system uses four track ropes and two passenger cabins that pass each other midway during the ascent.
The current tramway was built by VonRoll in 1995-96 and replaced an older system from 1962. It was renovated before the 1996 Olympic Games.
The aerial lift provides views of the Confederate Memorial Carving on Stone Mountain while ascending to the 1,683-foot summit elevation.
The ride takes just a few minutes and offers an easy way to reach the top without effort. The cabins provide views in all directions as you ascend at a steady, gentle pace.
The design places the motor room at the loading level instead of at the summit station. There is only one tower near the summit, which makes this tramway look different from typical aerial cable systems.
