East Lake Golf Club, Private golf course in Atlanta, Georgia, US
East Lake Golf Club is a private golf course in the eastern part of Atlanta, Georgia. The playing holes wind through gentle hills and open meadow sections surrounded by pine and hardwood trees.
The club opened in 1904 as the city's first golf facility on land that had been farmland. Bobby Jones, the legendary golfer, grew up nearby and practiced here as a child in the 1910s.
The name comes from a nearby lake that once supplied drinking water for Atlanta. Members and their guests use the grounds today like a private retreat with views of old trees and manicured lawns.
The course is private and accessible only to members and their guests. Visitors can enter the grounds only during professional tournaments in fall, when spectators are welcome.
The property includes a separate public 9-hole practice facility that offers golf instruction to local children. This second course is named after an amateur champion from the 1930s who trained here as a teenager.
