Kennesaw is a city in Cobb County, Georgia, located northwest of Atlanta. The city covers roughly 9.5 square miles (24 km²) and sits at an elevation of around 1,090 feet (330 m) above sea level.
The settlement started in the 1830s as Big Shanty, a camp built for railroad workers. It received its official charter as a town on September 21, 1887.
The Southern Museum in Kennesaw presents exhibits about the Great Locomotive Chase and maintains collections of Civil War artifacts and railroad memorabilia.
The Parks & Recreation department manages several public spaces and offers activities throughout the year for residents and visitors. Most facilities are accessible during daylight hours and work well for a walk or a short stop.
