Bartram Educational Forest

Bartram Educational Forest is a protected woodland area in Baldwin County covering more than 2,000 acres with diverse habitats and outdoor facilities. The land features established hiking trails, mountain biking paths, and open spaces for recreation managed by the Georgia Forestry Commission.

The land was formerly farmland connected to Central State Hospital and received its name from naturalists John and William Bartram in recognition of their botanical contributions. This naming reflects the historical connection between the medical facility and the surrounding territory.

The forest maintains educational programs focused on environmental conservation, forestry practices, and ecological principles for students and community members throughout the year.

Entry points are available during daylight hours with multiple access locations for different activities like hiking and biking. Visitors should wear proper footwear and check weather conditions since the terrain includes uneven ground and potentially wet areas.

The site is divided into two distinct zones: a Wildlife Management Area for hunting and a separate Recreation Area for other outdoor pursuits. This division allows different user groups and interests to operate alongside each other.
