Bowden Golf Course, Public golf course in Macon, Georgia, US

Bowden Golf Course is an 18-hole course with Bermuda grass greens and four tee options ranging across different skill levels. The facility spans about 230 acres and includes a complete practice area and pro shop.

John C. Cotton, a Macon professional golfer, designed the course in 1938; the Works Progress Administration supplied the labour on the site of Miller Field, a former airfield in east Macon. Macon secured $55,000 of the $70,000 cost, and the local Junior Chamber of Commerce raised much of the rest through contributions and membership sales. The 18-hole course was completed in September 1940 on about 229 acres. Holes 1 and 10 sit on the former Miller Field.

In 1961 Bowden Golf Course became the first public facility in Macon to be racially integrated, ending the segregation that had applied there until then. The change came through the course's status as a city-owned public recreation site rather than through any change in its layout or buildings.

The course is open daily and offers cart and club rentals plus practice areas to warm up before playing. A pro shop and snack bar are available on-site for your needs.

Original cobblestone benches from 1940 remain scattered across the course, connecting today's players with the initial construction era. These details add a tangible link to the past as people play.
