The Sidney Lanier Cottage is a white frame Victorian cottage on High Street, built in 1840 as a four-room house and renovated to its present Gothic Revival style in 1880. In 1879 it was moved fifty feet and two rooms and a porch were added. It has been restored as a single-family residence and is not open as a museum.

The house was built in 1840 as the birthplace of poet and musician Sidney Lanier. It earned recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, marking its importance as a home of an artist who shaped American cultural life.

The cottage is named for Sidney Lanier, born there in 1842, and the house stayed in family hands for generations. His wife Mary Day's 1867 wedding dress and photographs of the couple were among the items shown when the building served as a museum. Since 2021 it has been restored as a private single-family residence.
