The Johnston-Felton-Hay House spans 18,000 square feet with 24 rooms, featuring an 80-foot cupola and intricate Italian-inspired architectural elements throughout the structure.
William Butler Johnston and Anne Clark Tracy constructed this residence between 1855 and 1859 after gathering design inspiration during their extensive European travels.
The interior displays numerous European artifacts collected by the Johnstons, including the 1857 marble statue 'Ruth Gleaning' by American sculptor Randolph Rogers.
Visitors can explore the mansion through guided tours, which present the historical rooms, period furnishings, and architectural details from both Johnston and Hay family eras.
The house incorporated advanced systems for its time, including central heating, a French lift, speaker tubes connecting fifteen rooms, and an early form of air conditioning.
