Broad Street Historic District

Broad Street Historic District is a protected neighborhood in Augusta containing 158 buildings with varied architectural styles from different eras. The structures line Broad Street between 5th and 13th Streets and display a mix of designs from the past.

This neighborhood was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, protecting its historical character. The designation helped secure its buildings and identity for future generations.

The neighborhood houses art galleries and performance venues that show how downtown Augusta evolved over centuries. These spaces shape daily life and create a place for artistic exchange in the community.

Visitors can access public parking areas, including double-sided spaces along the median and a shaded lot near 11th Street. Wear comfortable shoes since there is significant walking to explore the different blocks.

Until 2016, the Haunted Pillar stood here, a remnant from a farmers market built in the 1830s that survived a tornado in 1878. This unusual monument had become local folklore before its removal.
