Harbour Town Lighthouse

Harbour Town Lighthouse is a 27-meter-tall navigation light with alternating red and white bands on its octagonal tower, located at a marina on Hilton Head Island. The structure overlooks the waterfront and sits amid landscaped grounds.

This lighthouse was built in 1970 as the first privately funded lighthouse constructed in the United States since the early 1800s. It marked a significant shift in how coastal development took shape at this location.

The lighthouse serves as the visual centerpiece for golfers playing the final hole of the adjacent golf course and appears regularly in televised tournaments.

Visitors can climb to the observation deck, though it helps to arrive early to avoid crowded periods. The view is best enjoyed when the sun is not directly overhead.

The tower holds retail shops at both ground and top levels, along with a museum displaying historical photographs of the area. Many visitors find the upper gift shop particularly busy during afternoon hours.
