Pacifica, Coastal municipality in San Mateo County, California
Pacifica is a municipality in San Mateo County that stretches along the California coast between San Francisco and Half Moon Bay. The community includes several beaches, coastal trails, and neighborhoods spread across roughly 12.5 square miles.
Nine separate communities joined together in 1957 to form the municipality. These included Fairmont, Westview, Pacific Manor, Sharp Park, Fairway Park, Vallemar, Rockaway Beach, Linda Mar, and Pedro Point.
Sanchez Adobe, constructed in 1846, represents the earliest building in San Mateo County and marks the location of former Ohlone Indian settlements.
The city hall is located at 170 Santa Maria Avenue and stays open until 7:30 PM on Wednesdays, with regular weekday hours starting at 8:30 AM. Comfortable footwear is helpful for most coastal activities, as the terrain can be uneven in many spots.
An expedition led by Gaspar de Portolà reached Sweeney Ridge in 1769, where they became the first Europeans to spot San Francisco Bay. The Sanchez Adobe built in 1846 stands where Ohlone settlements once existed.
