Fort Funston, Coastal defense in San Francisco, USA
Fort Funston is a former harbor defense installation located in the southwestern corner of San Francisco.
Previously a Spanish War fort, it was later renamed in honor of Frederick N. Funston, a major general in the United States Army.
With its graffiti-adorned bunkers, Fort Funston stands as a symbol of youth and counterculture expression.
It's now a popular park with a beach and hiking trails appreciated by dog owners.
The site has a long history of hang-gliding activity which originated in the late '60s.
