TPC Harding Park, Municipal golf course in San Francisco, United States.
TPC Harding Park is a golf course in San Francisco, California, that runs along the shore of Lake Merced and offers 18 holes. The facility includes a practice area with several training sections and a clubhouse with dining services.
Willie Watson and Sam Whiting designed the course in the mid-1920s on land at the city edge that had previously served as grazing pasture. Architect Alister MacKenzie reworked some of the greens in the 1930s and added new contours.
The San Francisco City Championship tournament at Harding Park launched careers of professional golfers Ken Venturi and George Archer in their early days.
The course sits about 15 minutes southwest of downtown in a quiet area near the lake where morning fog often limits visibility. City residents receive discounts on access, and advance reservations are recommended.
Eucalyptus trees line many of the fairways and give the course a characteristic scent, especially after rain or during damp morning hours. Some of these trees were planted in the early decades of the 20th century and still stand today.
