Boxer Stadium

Boxer Stadium features a natural grass field measuring 100 by 65 meters with concrete bleachers providing seating for approximately 3,500 spectators during soccer and rugby matches.

Originally constructed and opened in 1953 as Balboa Park Soccer Stadium with a construction cost of roughly $150,000, concrete bleachers were added following a bond measure passed in November of that year.

The stadium was renamed to honor Matthew J. Boxer, a former president of the San Francisco Soccer Football League who made notable contributions to the local soccer community during the 1990s.

Located at 166 Havelock Street, the stadium offers basic amenities including restrooms and limited street parking, with field reservations managed by the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department up to two weeks in advance.

Boxer Stadium served as the main venue for the 1982 Gay Games and hosted 16 USA Eagles international rugby matches between 1996 and 2000, including test matches against Canada, Japan, and Wales.
