Kentfield, Residential community in Marin County, United States
Kentfield is a residential community on the eastern slopes of Mount Tamalpais in Marin County. The area sprawls across gentle hills at an elevation of around 35 feet (10 meters) and mixes home neighborhoods with open green spaces.
The place began in 1857 when James Ross established a trading post called Ross Landing, then passed to Albert Kent in 1871, who gave the area its present name. This early trading hub shaped its development as a settlement.
The College of Marin sits at the center and hosts various events that bring people from the area together. The campus serves as a gathering place woven into the rhythm of community life.
The area receives around 48 inches (1.2 meters) of rain each year, making it one of the wettest spots in the Bay Region. Plan for damp conditions, especially during winter months.
Despite having around 2,500 residents per square kilometer, the area has managed to preserve its natural green spaces throughout the community. This balance between homes and nature sets it apart.
