Larkspur Downtown Historic District, Historic district along Magnolia Avenue in Larkspur, California.
Larkspur Downtown Historic District is a collection of forty-one buildings and one structure spread along Magnolia Avenue forming a protected historic zone. The area stretches from the Lark Creek Inn to the former railway platform, which now serves as a bicycle path.
The area developed as a commercial and residential center from the early 1900s through the 1930s when most of these buildings were constructed. In 1982, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places to preserve this architecturally diverse collection.
The Lark Theater from 1937 and St. Patrick's Catholic Church from 1940 shaped how the community gathered and spent time together. These buildings show the important role that entertainment and faith held in people's daily lives.
The best way to explore the area is on foot, starting from Lark Creek Inn and following Magnolia Avenue to the converted railway platform. The street is easy to walk and gives visitors a clear view of the different buildings and their architectural details.
Many buildings that visitors see today started as homes but were converted to businesses over time. This transformation happened in ways that respected their original architecture, giving them a distinctive character that blends past and present.
