The Sweetwater Saloon occupies 153 Throckmorton Avenue, providing a space for live performances with multiple musical acts every week.
Jeanie Patterson and her husband Jay acquired the establishment in 1979, operating it until December 1998 when they sold it to Becky and Thomas Steere.
The venue attracted numerous performers including Bonnie Raitt, Elvis Costello, Jerry Garcia, John Lee Hooker, and Carlos Santana throughout its thirty-year span.
Monday nights featured open microphone sessions where both emerging artists and established musicians took the stage to perform their music.
Hot Tuna recorded two live albums at the location in 1992, with special appearances by Bob Weir and Wavy Gravy.
