Green Gulch Farm Zen Center occupies 115 acres in a valley north of San Francisco, combining organic agriculture with Buddhist practices and meditation facilities.
The San Francisco Zen Center and Zentatsu Richard Baker established this spiritual and agricultural center in 1972 as part of their commitment to Buddhist teachings.
The center maintains Japanese traditions through regular tea ceremonies, meditation sessions called zazen, and teachings from resident Buddhist scholars and practitioners.
Visitors can participate in Sunday programs starting at 8:15 AM with meditation, followed by lectures and communal lunch featuring fresh produce from the farm.
The center operates an organic farm producing vegetables, fruits, and flowers, while teaching agricultural techniques through apprenticeships and volunteer programs.
