USS San Francisco Memorial, War memorial at Lands End, San Francisco, US.
The memorial displays a battle-damaged section of the USS San Francisco's bridge wing, positioned to face toward the Guadalcanal battlefield location.
During the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal in November 1942, the USS San Francisco endured 45 direct hits while protecting American forces in the Pacific.
The memorial foundation maintains records and photographs of all service members who served aboard the USS San Francisco between 1935 and 1947.
Visitors can access the memorial through the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, with parking facilities available near the observation point.
The steel structure retains the original combat damage, including shell holes and shrapnel marks from the intense naval engagement.
