Dutch Windmill, Historical windmill in Golden Gate Park, United States.
The Dutch Windmill stands 75 feet tall with wooden sails spanning 102 feet wide at the western edge of Golden Gate Park near Ocean Beach.
Built in 1902 at a cost of 25,000 dollars, the windmill pumped 30,000 gallons of water per hour to irrigate Golden Gate Park until 1913.
The Queen Wilhelmina Tulip Garden surrounding the windmill displays thousands of tulip bulbs that bloom each spring, reflecting Dutch horticultural traditions.
Visitors can reach the Dutch Windmill by following John F Kennedy Drive to the northwestern corner of Golden Gate Park near the intersection with Great Highway.
The first caretaker of the windmill lived in an adjacent cottage and grew vegetables to feed animals in the park's menagerie.
