Emeryville, Business hub in East Bay, California
Emeryville is a city in Alameda County, California, tucked between Berkeley to the north and Oakland to the south along the eastern shore. Three interstate highways run through the area, linking it directly to the wider San Francisco Bay region.
Joseph Stickney Emery bought land along the bay shoreline during the Gold Rush era and later lent his name to the area. The community became an incorporated city in December 1896.
The Ohlone gathered shellfish and other marine resources for centuries, leaving behind deposits now protected as archaeological evidence. The waterfront shifted from a Native gathering site to an industrial zone within a few generations.
The free Emery Go Round shuttle runs regularly to BART stations and other key points inside the city. Many shops, restaurants, and office buildings sit within walking distance along the main streets and redeveloped neighborhoods.
Pixar Animation Studios has its headquarters here and has produced animated films for a global audience from these buildings for decades. The company shapes the cityscape with its sprawling campus and distinctive architectural style.
