San Ramon is a city in Contra Costa County, California, set among rolling hills and wide valley floors. The residential neighborhoods spread across several connected valleys, while commercial districts line major roads and Mount Diablo rises in the distance as a constant landmark.
The area was part of Rancho San Ramon, a Mexican land grant given to José María Amador in 1834, after the Seunen people had lived there for centuries. The city itself was officially incorporated only in 1983, growing from several rural settlements into a suburban residential center.
The city maintains 58 parks including Memorial Park, which contains a dedicated monument for the passengers of Flight 93 from September 11.
The city has more than 50 parks spread across different neighborhoods, offering access to walking trails, sports fields, and open green spaces. Bishop Ranch, a large complex with offices, shops, and restaurants, sits in a central location and can be reached by car or public transit.
The Iron Horse Regional Trail runs through the city, following the old route of the San Ramon Branch Line, a railroad that carried passengers until 1934. Memorial Park contains a monument dedicated to the passengers of Flight 93, built as part of the September 11 memorial efforts.
