Fort Bragg

Fort Bragg is a coastal town in Mendocino County, California, stretching along beaches, cliffs and forested hills. The settlement sits approximately 170 miles north of San Francisco and provides access to several shoreline sections and inland forest areas.

The military post was established in 1857 and developed into a permanent settlement. In 1889, the location received official town status through incorporation proceedings.

The Edgewater Gallery showcases works by northern California artists, including watercolors and oil paintings that reflect coastal landscapes and life by the ocean. Visitors can view rotating exhibitions and often speak directly with artists who present their work on site.

Access follows Highway 1, which runs along the coast and offers several turnoffs to beaches and walking trails. The area includes numerous camping facilities that provide a good base for multi-day stays.

Glass Beach collects polished glass pieces in different colors, formed from discarded materials shaped by ocean waves over decades. The smooth fragments sit among pebbles along the shore and attract many visitors who come to see the colorful remnants.
