Bell Field, University stadium at Oregon State University, Corvallis, United States
Bell Field was a university stadium at Oregon State University featuring a horseshoe shape that opened toward the north with seating for around 21,000 spectators. The design allowed the venue to serve as the main home for the Beavers football team during its operational years.
The venue opened in 1910 as the home of the Oregon State Beavers football team. It remained their primary home until Parker Stadium opened in 1953 and took over the role.
The stadium took its name from J.R.N. 'Doc' Bell, a major supporter of Oregon State College who left a mark on the university's athletic programs. This naming choice reflected how local sports venues often honored figures who shaped campus life.
The limited seating meant that major football games in the early 1950s moved to Multnomah Stadium in Portland instead. Visitors should know the site no longer stands and that Parker Stadium became the successor venue for the university.
The playing surface shifted from dirt and sawdust to natural grass in 1937, aligning with improvements being made at other Pacific Coast Conference stadiums. This upgrade showed how college sports venues were evolving to meet changing expectations.
