Memorial Union, Student union building at Oregon State University, United States
Memorial Union is a brick and granite building at Oregon State University featuring a central dome, multiple wings, ballrooms, and meeting spaces. Inside you will find dining areas, study zones, a bowling alley, retail shops, and various meeting rooms.
Construction began in 1926 under architect Lee Arden Thomas with funding entirely from private donations. The building was designed as a memorial to soldiers who died during World War I.
The building serves as the heart of student life on campus, where people gather for meals, meetings, and celebrations throughout the year.
The building is open to students and visitors during the academic year and beyond with plenty of areas to explore. It helps to arrive during quieter times of day if you prefer a more peaceful experience, as main areas can get crowded during peak hours.
This building holds the distinction of being the oldest student union facility within the Pac-12 conference. Its modest size contrasts with its historical importance to the region and the university.
