Klootchy Creek County Park, County park and picnic site in Oregon, US

Klootchy Creek County Park is a county park along the Oregon coast, just off Highway 26 east of its junction with Highway 101. It features walking and biking trails that run through stands of old coastal trees, along with picnic areas and the remains of what was once a very large Sitka spruce.

The land around the park was once part of the broad coastal forest that covered much of Oregon, and logging shaped the local economy for decades. The park was set aside to protect some of the remaining old trees, and its trail network was built by volunteers in 2019.

The park sits in a part of Oregon where coastal forests have long shaped local life. Walking among the old trees gives a clear sense of how much the forest matters to people in this corner of the coast.

A free permit is required to visit and can be obtained online before arrival; you need to bring the permit number with you on the day. Some sections may be closed due to active logging work nearby, so it is worth checking the signs at the entrance before heading out on the trails.

The park was once home to the largest Sitka spruce in Oregon by volume, a tree that had been growing for nearly 800 years. A storm in 2007 toppled it, but the enormous stump is still standing and draws many visitors on its own.
