The George C. and Winona Flavel House on Grand Avenue displays Gothic Revival architecture with an 11,600-square-foot layout across a full city block.
Built in 1879 as a wedding gift from Conrad Boelling, the house served as the residence of Captain George Conrad Flavel and his wife Winona until 1901.
The property represents the maritime heritage of Astoria through its connection to the Flavel family, who contributed to regional navigation and trade development.
The house underwent significant restoration efforts after the city of Astoria took control through a derelict buildings ordinance in the late 20th century.
Local businessman Greg Newenhof purchased the property in 2015 to restore it, but his unexpected death in 2018 left the restoration project unfinished.
