Sealand of the Pacific, Marine park in British Columbia, Canada
Sealand of the Pacific was a marine park and public aquarium located in South Oak Bay near Victoria in British Columbia. The facility housed various marine animals and featured large tanks where killer whales and other sea creatures were kept on display.
The park opened in 1969 and operated marine animal shows for nearly 25 years. It closed in 1993 following a fatal incident that led to the facility's permanent shutdown.
It was known for its killer whale shows, contributing to the cultural significance of marine life entertainment in the late 20th century.
The site is now home to the Oak Bay Marina and Restaurant. Visitors can still see the location, though the facility no longer operates as an attraction.
A renowned killer whale named Tilikum was born here and became the face of the park for decades. The animal later gained worldwide attention through documentaries about captive whale welfare.
