Gum Wall, Gum wall in Pike Place Market, Seattle, United States
This brick wall stretches 54 feet in length and reaches 8 feet in height, featuring thousands of pieces of chewing gum stuck to its surface.
The tradition began in 1993 when theater patrons started sticking gum on the wall while waiting in line for performances at Market Theater.
The wall represents a form of participatory street art where visitors contribute by adding their own pieces of chewing gum to the collection.
Visitors can find the wall by entering Post Alley from Pike Street, following the path beneath Pike Place Market's main entrance.
In 2015, workers removed over 2,350 pounds of gum during a deep cleaning operation that required 130 hours to complete.
