Hamilton Viewpoint is a park situated on Duwamish Head that overlooks Seattle's skyline, Elliott Bay, and the Cascade Mountains. The grounds span about 16.9 acres and include several picnic and rest areas positioned to take advantage of the views.
The land was acquired in 1914 and initially used as a military installation before being converted into a public viewpoint park in 1954. It was named in 1957 after Rupert Lehn Hamilton, a publisher of the West Seattle Herald newspaper.
The park serves as a gathering place where neighbors meet for local events and community celebrations. People from the area use this space regularly to spend time together outdoors.
The park is located at 1531 California Way SW and offers easy pedestrian access with clear pathways to the best viewing areas. Visitors will find drinking fountains and plenty of space to relax, picnic, or simply enjoy the views.
The site was originally a military installation before becoming a public gathering place, giving it an unexpected historical layer. This transformation shows how places can fundamentally change over time.
