Vancouver Art Gallery, Art gallery and civic building in downtown Vancouver, Canada
Vancouver Art Gallery is an art museum in downtown Vancouver housed in a converted neoclassical building. The rooms are spread over several floors and include exhibition halls, a library, and an area for sculptures.
The building was designed by Francis Rattenbury as a provincial courthouse and served that purpose until the early 1980s. It was then renovated and reopened as a museum.
The name comes from the city itself, named after British Captain George Vancouver. The main hall of the former courthouse is now an open gallery where visitors see modern art between the columns and under the high dome.
The museum is open daily and accessible into the evening on Tuesdays. All areas are wheelchair accessible and elevators connect the different floors.
A new building for the museum has been under construction since September 2023 in Larwill Park. The construction is intended to provide space for more exhibitions and additional storage.
