Patton Bridge

The Patton Bridge is a transportation bridge that crosses the Green River in Auburn using a combination of concrete and steel construction. The structure spans across the water through three different sections that work together to support the roadway.

This structure was built in 1950 and pioneered an innovative approach to box girder design. The construction represented a significant step forward in bridge engineering at that time.

This bridge showcases mid-twentieth century engineering innovation and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. It represents a pivotal moment when designers were experimenting with new structural methods.

The bridge is open for vehicle traffic and straightforward to traverse. Visitors should remember that this is an active transportation route, so exercise caution when near moving traffic.

This was the only bridge built between 1941 and 1950 to use this specific combination of welded steel box girders with a concrete deck. This technical solution was rare for its time and makes the bridge a special example of experimental engineering.
