Emerald Downs, Horse racing track in Auburn, United States
Emerald Downs is a horse racing track in Auburn, Washington, built around a one-mile (1.6 km) dirt oval with a large grandstand along the home stretch. The infield is open and visible from the seating area, giving a clear view of the full circuit.
The track opened in 1996 on land previously occupied by Longacres Racetrack, which had operated for decades before closing. The Muckleshoot Indian Tribe bought the property in 2002 and took over full operations in 2015.
The Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, native to this region of Washington, owns the grounds and has run operations since 2015. Visitors can feel this local connection in how the venue is managed and presented.
Racing takes place from April through September, mostly on weekends and holidays, so it is worth checking the schedule before visiting. Wagering is available year-round even outside the racing season, and the venue has ample parking on site.
The facility has eleven barns fitted with mechanical hot walkers, machines that walk horses in circles after a race to help them cool down. This level of on-site care infrastructure is rarely found at tracks of this size.
