Husky Stadium, Football stadium at University of Washington, Seattle, US
Husky Stadium is a football venue at the University of Washington in Seattle, standing on the shore of Union Bay with views across Lake Washington and toward distant peaks. Metal canopies stretch over the seating rows and shelter spectators, while the open ends of the oval frame the water beyond.
Workers built the original venue in 1920 with 30,000 seats along the lakeshore to meet the growing needs of the university. Several expansions followed over the decades until capacity reached 72,500 seats by 1987.
President Warren G. Harding gave his final public speech here on July 27, 1923, just eight days before his death. Today students and fans dress in purple and gold during home games, and the atmosphere blends university traditions with the rhythm of autumn game days.
You can reach the venue on foot, by bicycle, by car, by boat across Lake Washington, or via the city light rail. On game days paths fill early, so arriving well ahead helps avoid crowding and parking searches.
The shape and metal canopies amplify sounds and allow crowd noise to exceed 100 decibels during games. This acoustic effect comes without any technical aids, purely through the building design of the oval.
