Harbor Island, Industrial artificial island in Seattle, United States

Harbor Island is an artificial island at the mouth of the Duwamish River, created by filling in the waterway with excavated earth. Today it functions as a major industrial and port facility supporting shipping and manufacturing operations.

The island was completed in 1909 as the world's largest artificial island at that time. Its creation transformed Seattle's port and enabled rapid growth in industrial and maritime activities.

The island transformed Seattle's maritime capabilities by establishing a central hub for shipbuilding, cargo operations, and industrial activities in the Puget Sound region.

The island is accessible via the West Seattle Bridge and Spokane Street Bridge, which connect directly to the industrial facilities. Access to certain areas may be restricted due to ongoing port operations and industrial activities.

During World War II, the island became a major center for naval ship construction, producing dozens of warships for the U.S. Navy. This industrial output made the facility one of the most important military production sites on the West Coast.
