T-Mobile Park, Baseball stadium in SoDo district, Seattle, US.
T-Mobile Park is a baseball stadium in the SoDo district south of downtown Seattle, with a retractable roof made of steel and fabric. The roof covers most of the seating and leaves the right outfield open to allow views of the nearby downtown skyline.
The facility opened in July 1999 after Washington State approved funding to keep the Mariners in town. Construction followed a public vote and replaced an older domed venue that was poorly suited for baseball.
The Pacific Northwest Baseball Museum inside displays artifacts about regional sports history and honors players who shaped the team. Bronze plaques and glass cases fill several rooms and mark milestones since the team was founded.
The stadium is reachable by several bus routes, commuter rail, and light rail that all stop within walking distance. On game days, gates typically open a few hours before the first pitch, giving time to visit exhibits and concessions.
A chandelier made from resin baseball bats hangs over one of the main entrance areas and greets visitors with a surprisingly elegant touch. Mosaic work on several walls shows the logos of all Major League teams and gives the place a national dimension.
