Mutual Life Building, Office building in Pioneer Square, Seattle, United States.
The Mutual Life Building at 605 First Avenue stands six stories tall with a red brick facade and stone accents facing Pioneer Square.
Constructed in 1890 as the Yesler Building on the site of Henry Yesler's original cookhouse, which served as Seattle's first community gathering location.
The structure became central to Seattle's preservation movement in the 1960s, leading to Pioneer Square's designation as a National Historic District in 1970.
The building underwent a complete renovation in the 1980s with a $5 million investment, converting the space into modern offices while maintaining historical elements.
In 2023, architects proposed transforming this historic structure into 80 units of affordable housing to address the shift toward remote work.
