Gibsons, Coastal town in Sunshine Coast, Canada
Gibsons sits at the south end of British Columbia's Sunshine Coast, stretching from its waterfront marina area across to commercial districts along the main highway. The town sits at roughly 10 meters elevation and has a compact layout.
George Gibson and his sons established this waterfront settlement in 1886, originally calling it Gibson's Landing. The settlement was renamed Gibsons in 1947, marking its transition to town status.
The town became known through the CBC Television series The Beachcombers, filmed here from 1972 to 1990. Molly's Reach restaurant, featured in the show, remains a gathering spot for locals and visitors.
Visitors reach the town by taking a roughly 40-minute ferry from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver, then driving from the Langdale terminal. This water approach gives a peaceful arrival to the coastal settlement.
In 2009, the town received international recognition as the best community under 20,000 residents worldwide. This award reflected its quality as a place to live and visit.
