Hart Memorial Park, County park in Kern County, California
Hart Memorial Park is a county park that stretches along the Kern River with two lakes and a network of canals winding through its 370 acres. The water features and irrigation channels shape the landscape and create distinct zones for different recreational uses.
The park project began in the 1920s after County Supervisor John Hart convinced local authorities to acquire land along the Kern River. Construction work stretched across about 15 years until the mid-1930s.
Local organizations contributed to the park's development by sponsoring tree groves and providing volunteer labor during its initial construction phase.
The park offers numerous facilities including picnic areas, sports fields, equestrian trails, and disc golf courses spread throughout the grounds. Visitors find plenty of space and options for their preferred activities, whether visiting as a family or individually.
At the park entrance stands a special stone that John Hart himself selected, placed there in 1937 as a memorial after his death. This unassuming stone honors the passion of a man whose vision brought this place to life.
