Pine Flat Lake

Pine Flat Lake is an artificial reservoir in the Sierra Nevada foothills that floods a wide valley with deep water. The shoreline curves through forested terrain with several inlets and coves to explore.

A dam project by the US Army Corps of Engineers was built on the Kings River in the 1950s to meet demands for water storage and flood control. The project transformed a valley into a lake that serves the surrounding region.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife manages the lake's fisheries, maintaining populations of rainbow trout, bass, salmon, catfish, crappie, and bluegill.

The water is used for fishing, boating, and swimming, with several launch points around the lake accessible to visitors. Camping facilities and basic services are found at multiple locations along the shore.

Water from the lake powers a hydroelectric plant that generates electricity for surrounding communities and has operated since the 1980s. This makes the reservoir an important energy source alongside its role for recreation and storage.
