Pine Flat Lake is an artificial reservoir in the Sierra Nevada foothills that floods a wide valley with deep water. The shoreline curves through forested terrain with several inlets and coves to explore.

Pine Flat Dam was completed on the Kings River in 1954 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, creating a reservoir with a storage capacity of 1,000,000 acre-feet. Built mainly for flood control, the project also supplies irrigation water and groundwater recharge. In 1984 the Jeff L. Taylor Pine Flat Power Plant added 165 megawatts of hydroelectric capacity.

Anglers at Pine Flat Lake need a valid California fishing licence and must follow Department of Fish and Wildlife rules. The department stocks the reservoir with largemouth and smallmouth bass, spotted bass, rainbow trout, king and kokanee salmon, catfish, crappie and bluegill. In the upper Kings River, a special management area, native rainbow trout reproduce naturally without planted domestic stock.

The water is used for fishing, boating, and swimming, with several launch points around the lake accessible to visitors. Camping facilities and basic services are found at multiple locations along the shore.

The Jeff L. Taylor Pine Flat Power Plant, completed in 1984, generates 165 megawatts from the dam's releases. The reservoir's storage capacity of 1,000,000 acre-feet makes it one of California's largest, and the lake doubles as a flood-control and irrigation source for the Kings River region.
