Shaver Lake, Recreational reservoir in Sierra National Forest, California.
The artificial lake spans 2.3 square miles at 5,627 feet elevation, surrounded by mountains and dense forest of the Sierra National Forest.
The Southern California Edison Company constructed Shaver Lake Dam in 1927, creating a 135,283 acre-feet capacity reservoir for hydroelectric power generation.
The reservoir maintains facilities for water sports, fishing competitions, and seasonal community gatherings that connect residents with outdoor traditions.
Multiple campgrounds and boat launches provide access points around the lake, with fishing permits required for catching the stocked trout population.
The original town of Shaver now lies submerged beneath the water, following the expansion of the lake by Thomas A. Edison Company in 1919.
