Lyons Dam, Arch dam in Tuolumne County, California.
Lyons Dam is a concrete structure built across the South Fork Stanislaus River within Stanislaus National Forest. The structure holds back water to create a reservoir surrounded by forested mountain terrain.
The structure was built in 1930 by Pacific Gas and Electric to provide water for growing communities in the Twain Harte region. It was developed to ensure a reliable supply for the developing settlements.
The reservoir brings together anglers and outdoor visitors from nearby communities who use the water surface throughout the year. Local people value this place as a spot to spend time with family and enjoy the natural surroundings.
The best access to the site is by local roads from the Twain Harte area. Plan your visit during warmer months when weather conditions are most favorable and the area attracts more outdoor activities.
In 2012, about 625 acres of the surrounding Rushing Meadows area transferred from Pacific Gas and Electric to National Forest Service management. This transfer allowed for enhanced protection and stewardship of the natural landscape around the dam.
