Hassayampa Inn, historic hotel in Prescott, Arizona, USA
The Hassayampa Inn is a three-story hotel built in 1927 that blends Spanish Colonial and Italian Renaissance architectural styles. The red brick building features decorative arches, ornamental brickwork, and a distinctive tower with a tiled roof that makes it stand out along downtown streets.
The hotel was built in 1927 by the architectural firm Trost and Trost as a major project backed by local residents who bought shares. It was officially recognized as historically significant when added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 and became part of Historic Hotels of America in 1996.
The inn takes its name from the Hassayampa River, derived from an Apache word meaning the river that loses itself. Inside, visitors see colorful murals, stained-glass doors, and restored wooden beams that reflect the craftsmanship of earlier decades.
The inn is located downtown within walking distance to shops, restaurants, and galleries. With 67 rooms and multiple event spaces, it accommodates individual travelers and large groups, while staff are on hand to help with directions and recommendations.
A notable story involves a young bride named Faith Summers who checked in on her wedding day in 1927 and whose husband never returned from buying cigarettes. Over the decades, guests and staff have reported sensing her presence through unexplained events and phenomena in the rooms.
