South Lake Tahoe stretches along Lake Tahoe Boulevard at an elevation of 1,901 meters, featuring residential neighborhoods and tourism districts across 16 square miles.
The region transformed from unincorporated communities including Al Tahoe, Bijou, Stateline, and Tallac Village into an official city on November 30, 1965.
The Washoe Tribe honored their connection to the area by naming Lakeview Commons Park as Tahnu Leweh, meaning all the people's place in their language.
The eastern section concentrates tourism facilities near Heavenly Mountain Resort, while the western area contains residential zones around the intersection called The Y.
During winter months, the city receives regular snowfall, while summers bring warm days and cool nights, creating conditions for year-round outdoor activities.
