Idlewild Park, Public park along Truckee River in Reno, Nevada
Idlewild Park is a large public space beside the Truckee River near downtown Reno with diverse recreational areas spread throughout. It features rose gardens, duck ponds, a swimming pool, two children's playgrounds, and a skate park set within its grounds.
The land was purchased by Reno in 1921 and transformed from former ranch properties into a public recreational space. This conversion created one of the key green spaces near downtown Reno.
The California Building within this space serves as a central venue where the community gathers for weddings, meetings, and celebrations. It remains an active gathering place for people marking important moments throughout the year.
The park includes spaces for picnicking with shelters, sports fields, fishing lakes, and connected walking and cycling paths that form part of the Tahoe-Pyramid Bikeway system. These paths make it easy to explore the grounds by foot or bike.
The rose garden contains more than 200 rose varieties and holds certification from the American Rose Society, drawing enthusiasts from across the region. This section was established in 1958 and displays an impressive collection of blooming varieties throughout the seasons.
