Fish Lake, lake in Sevier County, Utah, United States
Fish Lake is the largest natural mountain lake in Utah, situated at about 8800 feet of elevation in Sevier County. Tall trees and gentle mountains surround the water, while three main boat ramps on the western shore provide access for fishing and recreational boating.
Early settlers used the area for fishing and camping, while in the early 1900s a doctor established a small hospital on the southern shore that later burned down. The original route to reach the lake was a rough dirt path, transforming any visit into a full day's journey.
Fish Lake takes its name from its primary use as a fishing water for the region. The lake serves as a gathering place where visitors fish, camp, and spend time outdoors, with each season offering different ways to enjoy the natural setting.
The lake sits in an area with no cell phone signals or wifi, so plan for offline activities and visit during warmer months when lodges and marinas operate. Boat rentals, free boat ramps, and multiple campgrounds with varying amenities make it easy to organize a visit of any length.
A remarkable sight is the Pando aspen grove, a giant forest growing from a single root system that is considered the heaviest living organism on Earth. In fall, all the leaves turn color at once, creating a striking display, while from September through November visitors can watch red kokanee salmon spawning in the water.
