Bank Saloon
The Bank Saloon, also known as Jack's Bar, is a brick building completed in 1899 featuring Victorian architecture. It displays characteristic decorative details of that period, including ornamental window frames and intricate woodwork that remain visible today.
The building opened in 1899 and became one of the oldest continuously operating bars in Carson City, even continuing service during Prohibition. After closing in 2002, it underwent extensive restoration from 2017 to 2020 and reopened as the Bank Saloon in November 2020.
The Bank Saloon sits directly across from the Nevada State Capitol and served as an informal meeting place for politicians and workers over the decades. The building shows how such gathering spaces brought the community together and shaped local conversations.
The building is easy to locate on South Carson Street in the center of Carson City, directly across from state government buildings. Its location makes it convenient to visit while walking through downtown and viewing the Victorian details up close.
After decades of continuous use, the building showed visible wear with leaning walls and pigeons nesting on the roof before its restoration. These marks of its long life made the renovation project significant in preserving it for future generations.
