National Automobile Museum, Automobile museum in downtown Reno, United States.
The National Automobile Museum in Reno displays over 200 vehicles across four galleries connected by period-themed streets with authentic storefronts and artifacts. Visitors walk through these recreated streets to see cars from different eras.
The museum grew from a private collection that William F. Harrah built in warehouses near Sparks, originally holding 1,450 vehicles. After his era, Holiday Inn donated 175 cars, and the museum opened to the public in 1989.
The museum displays vehicles that appeared in famous films, including James Dean's Mercury Eight and a 1912 Rambler from the Titanic movie. These cars let visitors connect with scenes they may recognize from the big screen.
The museum is open Monday through Saturday from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM and Sundays from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Plan enough time to walk through all four galleries comfortably, and the signage throughout helps with navigation.
The museum displays experimental vehicles like the Dymaxion car designed by Buckminster Fuller, an innovative concept from the past. There is also a gold-plated DeLorean that was originally built for American Express.
